There are several levels of evidence to research and practice. The first one is the systematic reviews and meta-analysis. This one leads to the highest levels of evidence possible. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses go through strict evaluation procedures. The second level is randomized controlled trials. These are mainly clinical trials that involve the use of a randomized group of subjects. With this level, there is also the use of a control group, and both groups are then assessed and outcomes recorded. The third level is cohort studies. This level is synonymous to the randomized controlled trials because it uses two groups of subjects. One group needs to be exposed to the issue or matter under study while the other is not.
