New Practice Approaches
The professional Capstone and Practicum course allowed me to learn more about medical equipment, that I would later observe how they are used in the preceding weeks. In particular, we noted the new practice approach of employing electronic registration as a resource for preventing medical errors. We also discussed the precautions needed to keep the staff and patients safe and the importance of patients' reliance on the staff to provide for their safety while in the clinic. The engagement in discussions with my colleagues exhibited my good listening and communication abilities.
Inter-professional Collaboration
I got to experience the use of inter-professional collaboration in practice. Just as (Busari et al., 2017) shows, I learned that we healthcare professionals should employ inter-professional collaboration to enhance patient care effectiveness and ensure that we properly carry out patient care plans such as disease diagnosis and drug prescription, among other treatment interventions. In addition, I began appreciating the importance of exhibiting a transformational leadership style that utilizes a collaborative technique that accommodates a shared vision and inspiration to drive change in nursing practice. However, effective listening and good communication skills are necessary to facilitate collaboration and acquire support for change from staff. At the same time, my excessive desire to perform multiple tasks simultaneously is my major weakness in promoting inter-professional collaboration.
Healthcare Delivery and Healthcare Systems
In the third week, my preceptor and I addressed the new patient intake process, and I observed the learning processes of the new healthcare delivery and clinical system, the Electronic Health Records EHR. The motivation behind learning more about the EHR is understanding the benefits of healthcare delivery and clinical systems of guaranteeing clients a full range of access to preventive, diagnostic, curative, rehabilitative, and terminal medical services across all points of contact and settings of care. Moreover, as (Boxer & Ellimoottil, 2019) shows, I started to appreciate the importance of telemedicine in nursing practice since it helps healthcare providers more effectively track patients' health after treatment. Generally, the healthcare delivery and clinical system I adopted in my professional practice include the main components of finance and health insurance. However, my biggest weakness at the start of the course is the inability to operate the current diagnostic machines.
Ethical Considerations in Healthcare
Besides, the course allowed me to reflect on the importance of maintaining high ethical standards as a nurse as far as therapeutic relationships are concerned.
