The risk management program seeks to minimize medication errors in a healthcare organization. Medication errors have the potential to reduce the quality of care for the patients. The risk management program created aims at dealing with the problem of medication errors. It also seeks to ensure the fulfillment of the ethical obligation of care facilities to quality healthcare that is safe.
The Joint Commission and the evaluation of quality management processes
Since 1951, The Joint Commission has accredited more than 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the U.S. While the organization is not the only accreditation body in the healthcare industry, it is so far the largest and most prestigious (Lam et al., 2018). The Joint Commission has maintained state-of-the-art standards that seek to improve the quality and safety of healthcare offered in the healthcare facilities. For healthcare facilities to be accredited and maintain the approval trademark, they must undergo the on-site surveys by the organization at least once in three years.
Preparing for a Joint Commission survey is a challenging process for healthcare providers. The Joint Commission has to examine the current processes and procedures of an organization against a set of current standards of care. In this case, the healthcare provider has to spend more time in improving the areas that are not in compliance. Regarding the quality of healthcare, the organization will ensure that the processes, policies and procedures work together to minimize medication errors. The healthcare staff members should be in a position to demonstrate proficiency in certain job competencies. The performance evaluation will be based on the job descriptions outlined. In addition to accreditation, The Joint Commission will offer professional advice to the healthcare facility regarding how to ensure the provision of high-quality care (Leotsakos et al. 2014). It will also advice on how to boost the quality of staff recruitment and development. In essence, for the organization to get accreditation from The Joint Commission, it must ensure that it demonstrates the provision of high-quality services to the clients.
Roles different levels of administrative personnel.
The human resource management (HRM) is concerned about recruiting and developing staff members. The HR department is critical in a healthcare organization because it ensures that a healthcare facility has the human capacity needed (Okoye & Ezejiofor, 2013). In order to ensure that employees adhere to risk management policies, the HR department hires more competent workers. The department goes ahead and engages them in training to enhance their skills on risk management.
The nursing leadership is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the nurses. Nurse leaders are critical since they influence how nurses approach healthcare.
