Epidemiology has proved to be an important tool in health sciences. It enables administrators to study the distribution of a disease, its underlying causes, possible control measures, and understanding whether social factors increase the risk of the disease. This is why epidemiology is a unique science. In the last six years, cancer was ranked the main cause of death in the US but has dropped over the years as lagging behind heart diseases.
