Introduction
Health care professionals play a critical role I enhancing care outcomes. One of the settings they provide the care is the long-term care facilities. These facilities aim to assist individuals who have difficulty doing their daily living activities and those who have chronic or critical illnesses and disabilities. The support requires collaboration among various professionals in the medical field. First-hand experience is critical in understanding how to work with an interprofessional team (National Institute on Aging, 2017). In line with this, the paper aims to explain the challenges of formulating a decision based on the contradicting opinions within a healthcare team.
The Experience
Patient/Resident name is Mr. MM, 82 years old male. Recently resident was tested Covid positive. His primary diagnosis is Parkinson disease. Working with the patient and in the long term care facility proved both positive as well as negative experiences. The positive experience was the ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with the patient. the patient was shown desire to understand through which it was possible to build trust by connecting with him and actively listening to his concerns as well as challenges. afrter this a rapport was established and the patient was willing to share all information regarding the health issue. The interproffessional team was very instrumental in the care. we collaborated with dietitian, physician, physio therapist, recreational therapist, social worker, PSW's and chaplain.
Reflection and Analysis of the Experience
My clinical practice taking place in long term care, and assignment needs to be written according clinical practice in long term care. We have following interprofesional team members: dietitian, physician, physio therapist, recreational therapist, social worker, PSW's and chaplain. The encounter with Mr. MM was a critical reminder of the need to observe COVID-19 precvention as well as containment measusres. Recently, the facility was under COVID-19 outbreak and we lost most of our patients and some of the staff contracted the virus. The situation was dire and almost caused burnout to our staff. however, through interdisciplinary team, we maintained resioliency and were able to keep the infection in check. The experience demonstrated the significance of communication in the interprofessional team (Lee et al., 2021). The situation can be analyzed using Peplau’s Theory of Interpersonal Relations, which comprises three processes, namely the orientation, working, and termination phase, respectively (Hagerty et al, 2017).
