Effects of Alcohol and Other Drugs on the Body
If much attention is given to alcohol and other drugs, overall population health will improve significantly. Some people do not understand the consequences that alcohol and other drugs have on their bodies. In some cases, moderate alcohol consumption is too much and can cause multiple health complications, particularly during pregnancy. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can lead to fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). Additionally, alcohol and other drugs can cause or deteriorate hypertension, congestive heart failure, cardiac problems, diabetes mellitus, seizure disorders, osteoporosis, and gout (Kinney et al., 2014). Notably, if individuals are informed about these dangers associated with alcohol intake and other drugs, the majority can change their lifestyles positively.
