Evidence-Based Solution to Address Syphilis in Pregnant Women

Essay Instructions:

***Use the picot questions from the needs assessment the one that was revised for STIs**
Review your problem or issue and the study materials to formulate a PICOT question for your capstone project change proposal. A PICOT question starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention used to address the problem must be a nursing practice intervention. Include a comparison of the nursing intervention to a patient population not currently receiving the nursing intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process. Formulate a PICOT question using the PICOT format (provided in the assigned readings) that addresses the clinical nursing problem.
The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project change proposal.
In a paper of 500-750 words, clearly identify the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.
Describe the problem in the PICOT question as it relates to the following:
Evidence-based solution
Nursing intervention
Patient care
Health care agency
Nursing practice

PICOT Question
In pregnant women, does provider education concerning syphilis screening in the third-trimester impact screening rates within obstetric medical facilities within a three-month timescale, compared to a context where there was no education?
Clinical Problem
Syphilis can result in complications during pregnancy. Early screening, management, and prevention can protect the health of the mother and their baby. Syphilis incidence in pregnant women within the United States (US) continues to rise, causing state and local level health departments to investigate commonalities within the cases and existing practices for prevention as well as commonalities in the cases (Rahman et al., 2019). Evidence indicates that early testing for syphilis among pregnant women lowered the prevalence of congenital syphilis and potential undesirable pregnancy outcomes related to maternal infection (Curry et al., 2018). Congenital syphilis can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature births, low weight birth, or mortality shortly after birth (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021).
Evidence-Based Solution
The project information would provide evidence-based information that can be utilized to design targeted education for healthcare providers on syphilis screening during pregnancy. With targeted training, the aim would lower the prevalence of congenital syphilis documented in the US. In addition, the project would offer the health sector a template for assessing apparent lapses within adherence to the care standard in the future. Patient education is an evidence-based and solution as it constitutes a practical solution to the incidence of syphilis in pregnant women in the US (Rahman et al., 2019).
Nursing Intervention
Provider education increases awareness of syphilis for the obtainment of better neonatal outcomes. The nursing intervention in the current project entails confirming pregnancy status within all women with syphilis as this could facilitate earlier identification of women whose babies could be at heightened risk for congenital syphilis (Rahman et al., 2019). Another critical nursing intervention in this project is rescreening pregnant women for syphilis in the last trimester, particularly between 28-32 weeks.
Patient Care
The PICOT question related to patient care enables nurses to identify risk factors for undesirable pregnancy outcomes. When pregnan...
