Of the sectors of the economy, the health care sector has experienced massive changes over the years. This relative to the legislative changes that have impacted the sector along with the programs that have been introduced in the nation to streamline healthcare sector ("Managed Care | Medicaid.Gov"). One of the major health care programs that has had massive impacts in the health care sector in America is the Managed Care program. Through contracted arrangements between the managed care organizations and Medicaid agencies patients are assured of quality care for their money. This paper reviews some two research papers relative to the impact of managed care with close reference to the cost health care. Bundorf, Schulman, Stafford, Gaskin, Jollis and Escarce, cites the elemental impacts that managed care has had treatment, costs as well as the outcomes for patients that have acute myocardial infarctions (Kate Bundorf et al.). On the other hand Maxim L. Pinkovskiy, evaluates the impacts of managed care with reference to the backlash it has had on the costs of health care (Pinkovskiy).
Managed care is a program that was designed to make sure that there was some subtle element of a streamlined health care system. This was a result previous failed attempts to give Americans quality health care that quality, cost and utility all at the same time. The resources in the health care system were not well distributed and this meant that some of the citizens did not enjoy the benefits of the healthcare system ("Managed Care | Medicaid.Gov"). The choice of the topic is largely based on the fact that, the program was meant to bring down the cost of health care without compromising on the quality. As a review of the cost efficiency of the program is paramount, to establish if the intended cost saving attributes have been met.
The significance of the two studies lies in the fact that, there is need to evaluate the cost efficiency of the managed care system ("Managed Care | Medicaid.Gov"). This is a program that designed with the aim of making sure that health care services were not only accessible to the wider public, but also at costs that the patients were able to work with (Kate Bundorf et al.). At the same time, the program considered the fact that, the health system already most of the resources required to streamline the health care sector however, there was need to avail them to the public. In addition, the program aimed at improving and maintaining high quality health care services offered to the patient. As such, the research papers are crucial as they offer one of the most crucial evaluation of a significant pillar of the managed care system; cost and its impact on the health care delivery.
According to Bundorf, Schulman, Stafford, Gaskin, Jollis and Escarce report, there are no clear indication of the means that were used to fund the project. The authors do not mention or highlight the means through which they gathered the funds to conduct the research.
