How Elimination Complexities Can Affect the Lives of Patients
According to Ramasamy (2021), elimination complexities are different health conditions that hinder an individual from properly excreting waste from the body. Thus, an individual faces difficulties in eliminating the bowel contents and during urination. Some complexities include constipation, diarrhea, incontinence, uremia, and fecal impaction. Patients with such complexities face various emotional and financial challenges due to the condition (LAFI, 2020). Financially, the patients’ families are adversely affected because they have to pay a lot to treat the disease. Furthermore, a patient may be unable to work, which may adversely affect their family’s financial condition, especially if they are the breadwinner. Emotionally, individuals may feel depressed and anxious because the complications prevent them from attending various social functions (Narvaez, 2020). Also, patients may feel stigmatized in cultures where conditions such as incontinence are associated with social hygiene.
