The primary reason for adopting computer-based record-keeping in hospitals is to store and access information quickly on a collective entity (computers). The data stored is necessary for practice supervision, patient care details, and for education (Joukes et al., 2019). The Institute of Medicine championed the adoption of technology-based record-keeping for easy access of data by both patients and the medical personnel. HITECH Act is a stimulus package introduced during Obama’s regime to promote and expand the adoption of computerized record-keeping in healthcare settings. The Act encouraged health officials to embrace EHRs (Aldler-Milsten & Jha, 2017).
The HITECH Act is less expensive to install as many people have adopted the use of the internet and mobile-based applications. Moreover, the Act is effective, safe, and provides fast access to healthcare information (Aldler-Milsten & Jha, 2017).
