Also reflect on health promotion and prevention strategies that BSN nurses can implement. With these thoughts in mind, respond to the following: 1-How do health issues resulting from obesity in the United States compare to those in other countries? 2-When developing an obesity health prevention strategy in the U.S. and in another country, what are some of the ethical, cultural, economic, political, or environmental issues a BSN nurse should consider? It is essential to determine the fact that the rates of obesity in the developed nations have taken a significant rise over the recent times. The statistics indicate that in the United States, close to one out of every three individuals suffers obesity. According to credible sources, other countries are also experiencing a significant increase in the rates of obese populations (Hedley, Ogden, Johnson, Carroll, Curtin, & Flegal, 2004). Several literatures in professional nursing define obesity as a situation in which the body mass index exceeds 30. According to these sources, a normal human being should have a BMI of between 18-24.9. However, in the event that an individual has a BMI of 25 and 29.9 he is likely to be considered overweight.
Obesity rates in the US and Mexico are considered the highest in the world. Medical reports have determined that 28 percent of Americans are classified medically as compared to 30 percent of Mexicans.
