The relationship between health insurance or the lack thereof, impacts on the management of disease, health status, and the mortality. A positive correlation exists between health insurance coverage and the health-related outcomes. Uninsured individuals are less likely to be screened for certain ailments. Childhood obesity can be monitored with the early detection of diabetes and nutritional check-ups. In the case of childhood obesity, if screened early and is found that the cause is diabetes, then the child can be put on a course of treatment and chronic disease management. This helps alleviate the child’s suffering.
Hospital based care includes emergency services and cardiovascular disease management. Insurance covered children with obesity can readily access care in case of emergencies. Insurance takes care of periodic episodes of heart abnormalities that may attack the child and in the event of an emergency. Children can also have access to a regular source of care. Uninsured children suffering from childhood obesity may at times not be able to access health services due to financial problems.
