For healthcare professionals in both developed and underdeveloped countries, offering high-quality care is an ethical responsibility (Poorchangizi et al., 2017). Patients all over the world deserve care that meets their unique needs and not just what is suitable to the healthcare practitioners involved. A transformed healthcare system around the world is needed to enhance the quality of care which recognizes the role of nursing leadership.
Globalization of healthcare
The “globalization” of healthcare is an opportunity for healthcare professionals to interconnect and implement practices to offer medical care to advance healthcare of individuals around the globe. According to Jones & Sherwood (2014), since the nurses constitute a huge segment of the global health workers, they are encouraged to undertake an essential function in the healthcare system. In order to meet global healthcare needs, nurses in developed and underdeveloped must take a proactive role (Salmond and Echevarria, 2017). Nursing leadership is being recognized as an essential aspect of improving the quality of care. With more care workers getting advanced degrees and performing to the full extent of their training, they have the opportunity to offer solutions to some of the healthcare problems.
The proposed policy change
There has been a growing concern about hospital care quality. Attention has been drawn on the need to improve the quality of care as an administrative mandate in healthcare facilities. The proposed policy change involves educating nurses in health policies. According to Ellenbeckerl, Fawcett, & Jones (2017), nurses are expected to address the healthcare challenges facing their respective nations by engaging in the process of developing health policy.
Nonetheless, they cannot participate in the process without education on health policies. The American Association of Colleges and Nursing (AACN, 2008) advocates that nurses should engage in political processes and campaign for changes in the healthcare system. The proposed change seeks to introduce nurses to health policy which is essential for enhancing the role of nurses within the healthcare system.
Agenda setting strategies
In order to gain the attention of the stakeholders, the media can be used to create awareness of the need for the proposed policy change (Bou-Karroum et al., 2017). Through the media, the stakeholders will learn about the need for nursing education in health policies. Additionally, organizing seminars can provide an effective opportunity for the stakeholders to learn about the proposed policy change. Through the seminars, the stakeholders will highlight their concerns about the proposed policy change.
A model for change
