Addressing Chronic Disease Population In Malaysia
It is worth noting that people with chronic conditions are included in the vulnerable population. It has been identified that people who live in rural areas have a higher risk of developing chronic diseases. According to studies, many healthcare access problems have been recorded by patients living below the poverty line or rural areas. It is crucial to note that, while patients in extreme poverty are different, they all share a similar reality: they are often more likely to develop chronic illnesses. The following paper focuses on developing a health policy recommendation for change affecting a vulnerable population (chronic patients in Malaysia).
Population and the Geography Area
The Malaysian government has undertaken measures to reduce, if not to eliminate, gaps in the public health system; however, all of these initiatives have run into roadblocks. There is evidence that major disparities exist, including access to healthcare, risk factors, and more apparent mortality in vulnerable populations. Poverty-stricken populations, for example, suffer from poor health. Economically disadvantaged people, ethnic and racial minorities, the uninsured, the homeless, people living with HIV, the homeless, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions are among the vulnerable groups. Preventive and health promotion programs are normally inaccessible to these communities. Some of these people may associate health care with negative experiences that emphasize shortcomings rather than providing successful care. The following policy paper focuses on a vulnerable population in Malaysia and describes health policy recommendations for change affecting the vulnerable group.
Malaysia aims to be a developed economy by 2025 and to achieve these goals. It must revisit its previous approaches to reducing inequality and poverty in the region. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, efforts are already carried or designed to ensure that Malaysians connect to their wealth and health services (Harris, 2019). However, a large segment of the population continues to face health and socio-economic inequalities. It has been identified in recent times that healthcare practitioners have indeed been able to recognize the rising concerns of chronic disease in Malaysian. Annually, an estimated 1.7 million in Malaysia die as a result of chronic disease. As a result, this number of deaths accounts for about 55% of all Malaysian society deaths (Yahya et al., 2019).
Issue of Concern
This vulnerable population has higher healthcare needs and is more likely to face challenges while seeking basic care. It is worth noting that dealing with such a poor group presents a challenge for healthcare experts, who may view themselves as ill-equipped and shocked to meet their medical needs.
