Fetal abnormality is an unexpected condition that affects a fetus during pregnancy. The fetal abnormality can make somebody's organs not grow, leading the baby to be born limb. It can be caused by different conditions such as infections and genetic issues. The case study is about a patient whose Fetus has unexpected conditions that impact the growth of body organs such as arms and legs. There is a dilemma between human dignity, God, and humanity. Marco, Dr. Wilson, Jessica, and Aunt Maria all have an obligation towards the matter.
Analysis of the Case Study
The nature of humanity is centralized on a sovereign God, and they believe that humanity is God-given. In this case, it is free will in which they can make decisions without being influenced by the creator (Beckwith & Thornton, 2020). Free will is the main component that helps define human beings' morality. For example, Dr. Wilson is sandwiched between telling Jessica the truth while Marco does not have the guts to approach his wife. Although the Doctor has provided the scientific and medical alternatives to solve the problem, Jessica has the sole will to make the decisions. It does not matter what Aunt Maria thinks, but Jessica has free will to create the ultimate decision.
There are different theories used to define human beings' moral status. However, virtue theory integrates with the case study since it deals with ethics (Varkey, 2020). Ethics are usually determined by human behavior. In this case, humanity will choose the moral ethics to follow and defy, which can be defined as free will. Intrinsic value is the overall value of something. Philosophers believe intrinsic value is crucial, especially in making moral judgments (Beckwith & Thornton, 2020). The intrinsic value of human beings is the right to make decisions and choices, which reflects free will. Notably, dignity is the state of being respected and honored. The virtue theory is closely related to human nature's intrinsic value and dignity (Page, 2012). Three concepts (virtue theory, intrinsic value, and dignity) are focused on showing the source of free will in human beings. They help understand the significance of free will in humans.
