Review the Recommendations of the National Academy of Medicine 2021 Report
The National Academy of Medicine (2021) report provides nine recommendations to improve nursing practice. These include recommendations to ensure that nurses have robust education, healthy work environments, and autonomy to improve the quality of healthcare. The recommendations focus on reducing disparities and ability to offer a fair and equitable health care to everyone. The report also recommends that organizations should allow nurses to further their education as well as additional training improves the quality of care for patients (NASEM Health and Medicine Division, 2021). The report also recommended valuing the contributions of nurses in healthcare and offering sustainable and flexible payment plans for them. It also recommended strengthening nursing education to ensure that all nurses go through continuous education to meet the changing needs in healthcare. The report also recommended that nursing organizations create a shared agenda that promotes health equity and addresses the issues of determinants of health, which interfere with the delivery and quality of health (NASEM Health and Medicine Division, 2021). Lastly, the report recommended the promotion of nurses’ health and well-being through employer support. 
Why Health Equity is Significant in This Report.
Health equity is significant in the report because it will help address the challenge of accessing healthcare among its population. According to the report, poor access to healthcare arises from the high rates of poverty and income inequalities among the American population (Hinton & Artiga, 2018). Health equity is important in the report because it ensures that social inequalities are addressed in healthcare. The report aimed to improve health equity in America to strengthen the expertise and capacity of nursing in the country. 
Social Determinants of Health (SDH)
SDH refers to factors from the social environment that influence health outcomes. SDH occur from people’s environments, age, work environments, and other forces that influence life (Hinton & Artiga, 2018). They include factors such as access to healthcare, social and economic status, work environment, ethnicity, neighborhood, and quality of life. 
One Determinant of Health and how it Impacts Health Equity 
An important determinant of life that affects access to healthcare is ethnicity. A person’s ethnic background affects health by defining the social setting and living environment of individuals. Racism results in increased levels of residential segregation, which affects an individual’s access to opportunities and health. Ethnicity supports racial segregation, which interferes with people’s access to opportunities, thus limiting their capacity to improve their financial status (Hinton & Artiga, 2018).
