Essay Instructions:

Please follow the sample paper breakdown attached. Information for paper is all in the attachment
Case Assignment
Your task for this case assignment is to answer these questions:
What type of study was used for this investigation? Explain.
What would be the appropriate measure of association for this study?
Calculate the food-specific attack rates and calculate the measure of association between illness and each food item.
What does a confidence interval mean, and which 95% confidence intervals are statistically significant?
What do the results indicate regarding the likely source of exposure?
Assignment Expectations
Length: Case assignments should be at least 2 pages (500 words) in length.
References: At least two references must be included from academic sources (e.g. peer-reviewed journal articles). Required readings are included. Quoted material should not exceed 10% of the total paper (since the focus of these assignments is critical thinking). Use your own words and build on the ideas of others. When material is copied verbatim from external sources, it MUST be enclosed in quotes. The references should be cited within the text and also listed at the end of the assignment in the References section (APA format recommended).
Organization: Subheadings should be used to organize your paper according to question
Format: APA format is recommended for this assignment. See Syllabus page for more information on APA format.
Grammar and Spelling: While no points are deducted, assignments are expected to adhere to standards guidelines of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence syntax. Points may be deducted if grammar and spelling impact clarity.
The following items will be assessed in particular:
Achievement of learning objectives for case assignment
Relevance (e.g. all content is connected to the question)
Precision (e.g. specific question is addressed. Statements, facts, and statistics are specific and accurate).
Depth of discussion (e.g. present and integrate points that lead to deeper issues)
Breadth (e.g. multiple perspectives and references, multiple issues/factors considered)
Evidence (e.g. points are well-supported with facts, statistics and references)
Logic (e.g. presented discussion makes sense, conclusions are logically supported by premises, statements, or factual information)
Clarity (e.g. writing is concise, understandable, and contains sufficient detail or examples)
Objectivity (e.g. avoid use of first person and subjective bias)

What type of study was used for this investigation? Explain.
The type of study used for this investigation is case-control study. The study estimates the magnitudes of association between exposure and an outcome. A case-control study attempts to identify the entire population that have developed the disease within a defined population. The study also considers the starting point of a source population, which is more like the hypothesis for the study (Breuer, Benkel, Shapiro et al., 1999).
The source population means the population that gives rise to the case. It defines the exposed and unexposed from the population by indentifying the denominators for the incidence risk rate to be calculated. In the case-control study, the number of cases will be indentified, and the risk rate would be calculated for each case (Breuer, Benkel, Shapiro et al., 1999).
In this case study, the people who ate green salad were mostly affected compared to others who ate baked potato and prime rib. The people who ate green salad were mostly affected because of contamination. The bacteria were transmitted to humans through water that probably was contaminated .The contaminated water was used to wash the salad. Since the salad did not need any heating, the bacteria multiplied, hence affecting several people (Breuer, Benkel, Shapiro, et al, 1999).
What would be the appropriate measure of association for this study?
The appropriate measure of association for the study will be persons who ate specified foods versus persons who did not eat specified food (Taormina, Beuchat, & Slutsker, 1999).
Calculate the food-specific attack rates and calculate the measure of association between illness and each food item.
To calculate the food attack rate and the measure of association between illness and each food item, we need to calculate the number of new cases of disease within a specified period then divide by the time each person was observed and totaling it with the entire persons (Taormina, Beuchat, & Slutsker, 1999).
Prime rib 21 / 29 = 0.724 %
Baked potato 6/ 23 =0.26%
Green salad 2/27 = 0....
