Food safety ensures that the food consumed by the public meets all the required safety thresholds. The link between the farm and the consumer has to be regulated, and the best interest of the public guaranteed. However, food safety is not only to ensure that food is stored in proper conditions such that it does not go bad or it is not contaminated by any known pathogens and threaten the health status of the consumers, but it also encompasses ensuring that the people have access to safe fresh food. Thus, one of the key areas the state of New York sought to address and fix is to ensure that more people could access vegetables and fruits conveniently and cheaply. Thus, under the healthy people 2020 objectives, the government sought to ensure that the people have access to fresh food and consume more fruits and vegetables.
The main reason for working towards ensuring a healthy community is to reverse the new trend in the state and across the country which is characterized by obesity, diabetes heart diseases among other chronic illnesses resulting from poor dieting and eating habits. There has been a new unhealthy trend of obesity in the United States which is the main reason for increase in other chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart diseases. To reverse the obesity trend, the public health system can invest in availing better food to the people especially to the minority groups. On average, the lower social classes live far from supermarkets where they can source fresh food CITATION Wes11 \l 1033 (West, Harvey-Berino, & Prewitt, 2011). They have also been hooked to unhealthy foods like fast foods, which are seemingly cheaper. Thus, to reverse the new trend, the government through the ministry of health can see to it that the people have access to vegetables and fruits. One of the overarching goals of Healthy People 2020 is to ‘achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups CITATION Cen19 \l 1033 (Center For Disease Control, 2019).’ Thus, some of the interventions were aimed to increase fruits and vegetable consumption in poor neighborhoods and reduce the commute distance for groceries, vegetables, and fruits. This would help more people, even from poor communities to increase their intake of fruits and vegetables and supplement their diets with fresh foods.

A logic model has two main components; processes and outcomes. The processes are the inputs, activities, outputs that will be done to guarantee the desired outputs. The outcomes are either short, intermediate, or long term but they involve ensuring that New York residents commute shorter distances for their fresh food and they have higher intake of fruits and vegetables.
