Recommendation 4: Increasing Nurse Holders of Baccalaureate Degree by 80%
According to IOM report, it is recommended that the number of nurses holding baccalaureate degrees should be increased from the current levels of 50% to 80%, an aspect that would be achievable through the inclusion of education. Given this, equipping these medical practitioners with the required skills and competencies to provide quality care, an aspect that prepares the nurses in adapting to the aspect of care that is turning to be complex (Johnstone, 2012). On the other hand, there is a need to initiate partnerships with state medical facilities in a bid to ensure scholarships and funding is provided to expand the scope of education for the nurses who aspire to increase their levels of education.
Recommendation 5: Doubling the numbers of nurses with a doctorate by 2020
To increase the population of nurses holding doctorate degrees by the year 2020, emphasis need to be pointed towards developing efficient structures that establish the progress of nursing education institutions in order to facilitate the process of learning for the nurses who have limited knowledge in the field in organizations that offer Doctorate and Masters degrees (Johnstone, 2012). Funding needs to be availed for the nurses to further their education and increase their diverse skills. Besides this, medical institutions need to consider increasing the nurse’s remuneration for nurses who have attained high levels of education in a bid to motivate others to improve their education.
