That is the only way I can evaluate your level of understanding. Quotes are rarely needed; if necessary, they should comprise less than 10% of a paper and must be properly cited. You must cite the sources within the body of the paper and include a reference list at the end of the paper. Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable source of information. Use credible, professional, and scholarly sources such as journal articles from ProQuest or EBSCO, and government, university, or nonprofit organizations' Web sites. You must clearly show that you have read the module homepage and the required background materials. You are welcome to do research in addition to -- but not instead of -- the required readings. Your papers will be evaluated on the following factors: References - citations are used within the body of the paper any time you state a fact or idea that is not common knowledge. A reference list is included at the end of the paper. Precision - you follow all instructions and you answer each part of the assignment. Breadth - you show broad knowledge of the module's topic. Depth - you go into detail to show more critical thought about the specific tasks or questions in the assignment. Clarity - the extent to which you elaborate and include discussion or examples as asked. Application - the extent to which you apply the information to a real-life situation related to the assignment, if asked. Measurement of Disease Author's Name Institution Question 1 Of the three transportation modes (airplanes, automobiles, motorcycles), motorcycles pose the greatest risk. The rate of accidents in motorcycles is (3,000 accidents cases÷10, 000 numbers of drivers=30%), automobiles (10,000 accidents cases÷100, 000 numbers of drivers=10%), and airplanes (30 accidents cases÷5, 000 numbers of drivers=0. 6%). Therefore, motorcycles have the highest accident rates (30%). In terms of occurrence of motorcycle crashes, age is a key determinant. In general, younger riders under the age of 40 are more likely to cause or be involved in motorcycle accidents (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA], 2001). Nonetheless, older rural and town riders have an increased propensity for fatal crashes. In a significant portion of fatal crashes, alcohol is involved. Many of the fatal crashes are caused by male drivers. There are key ethnic and urban clusters which can be points of focus with regards to drug use and motorcycle fatalities (NHTSA, 2001). With the above factors in mind, the appropriate target population would be young males (below 40 years), living in suburban or town areas. Question 2 When planning for a prevention program, it is imperative to conduct a situational assessment. It is strongly advised to execute a thorough and well-planned assessment (World Health Organization [WHO], 2004). This does not necessarily translate to a complicated or a prolonged process, but may mean simply setting out some time to compile and search for existing relevant information with regards to motorcycle accidents and the events surrounding. Good data are imperative in assessing the needs of this population. Henceforth, data should be complete, accurate, appropriate and reliable. One should seek out to identify data, in addition to problems revolving around the data itself. Knowledge of such shortcomings in the data will further assist in setting realistic objectives as part of accident prevention and education program (WHO, 2004). The methods of data collection will vary. In addition, the data obtained will also depend on the source. Sources of data will include hospital data on crashes and the injuries incurred (W...
