This paper explores the details of the TREATS Act before assessing the evidence to allow its implementation. Adopting more efficient technological inputs in healthcare should steer better patient outcomes considering the observed precautions.

TREATS Act (2021) is a bill on the floor of the 117th congress sponsored by Representative David McKinley. According to H.R.1647-117th Congress (2021-2022), the bill seeks a policy change in response to the increasing need for efficiency in prescribing drugs. The bill modifies the requirements linked to the coverage of particular telehealth services within the coverage of Medicare. With full implementation of the bill, there will be a permanent acceptance of telehealth services for mental health disorders and substance use disorder to be offered through audio-only technologies. The approvals, through this bill, should occur as soon as the practitioner or physician conducts video telehealth or in-person evaluation. Implementing this new policy also alters Schedule III or IV on controlled substances that can be prescribed online if the in-charge practitioner completes an effective telehealth evaluation with a video. Thus, the TREATS Act (2021) should come with positive impacts on healthcare.
