One of the areas in nursing that has received attention is transcultural nursing, and evidence based practice (EBP), as cultural competency is necessary to provide holistic care. The case for evidence based practice is that the interventions chosen are based on scientific evidence, and they can be crucial in the provision of culturally appropriate services. One of the challenges in integrating cultural competence is that there is lack of robust evaluation research that focuses on the evidence base of cultural competence (Engebretson, Mahoney, & Carlson, 2008). Nonetheless, researchers who study the link between the two highlight that transcultural nursing is associated with improved patient outcomes and the quality of services.
In a study by Burman, Robinson, & Hart, (2013), sought to highlight the link between patient centered care and evidence based practice. Even as the two distinct concepts are opposing viewpoints they are intertwined.
