It has become of importance for transcultural nursing in the health care setting and as such, a requirement for the nurses practicing nursing. This is attributed to the multicultural phenomenon that has taken place in the American population. Furthermore, according to the census performed by the U.S. Bureau, indicated that one in every three person in the state comprises of different ethnicities aside from the non-Hispanic Whites (Huston, 2014). Furthermore, the projections by the commerce department indicate that there has been a rising of the population from other ethnicities apart from the non-Hispanic Whites. This will include half of the population by 2050 (Coleman, 2013). As such, because of the increasing multicultural society, transcultural nursing is an important component that requires nurses to offer care that is culturally competent. Furthermore, nurses that are culturally competent have understanding of the ways of the different cultures as well as the skill in identification of the various patterns of culture. Hence, this facilitates in provision of care that is individualised ion order to meet the goals for the established health care for a patient. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance of diversity in the workplace. It also evaluates the aspect of generational diversity as well as exploring the issue of underrepresentation among the Hispanics that are considered as a minority group. Furthermore, the paper attempts to consider the impact of diversity in the nursing field as well as the provision of competent nursing care (Burns, 2012).
