Meaning of Dreams
All of us can dream as we sleep. Barrett (2009) stated that dreams are formed by the brain processes based on real-life experiences that are reflected by our subconscious. The dream typically bears the most emotional or the situations we are most involved with, and the mind attempts to find solutions by stimulating various parts of the brain and connecting the interpretations of each part creatively, resulting in a dream that reflects our consciousness (Rosler, 2018).
From Personal Experience: My Childhood Dream
Dreams are part of a human’s life, and from personal experience, dreams have often visited me as a child. Despite having many dreams in the past, the details are typically forgotten once I woke up. However, there is one dream that I can never forget, for it has the most significance in my life.
One night, I slept past midnight due to my anxiety after being bullied in school for being a nerd. As the dream started, I found myself alone, standing in the middle of nowhere in the middle of a night, a desert, while the cold wind touched my skin. It was dark, and I could not see anything, raising my fear of being alone. I remember being afraid to walk because I was not sure if I would be walking on a straight path or if I might be near a cliff and die if I fell. Thus, I decided to crawl slowly, on a straight path. After crawling for several hours, I saw a distant, dim light and started to have a scarce hope that someone could save me from the misery of being alone. I slowly crawled towards the light and eventually saw an older man standing in front of a wooden, old bungalow house, holding a torch. The older man looked at me while inviting me to the house. It was not very comforting because it was the first time I saw the man’s face. He was tall, with fair skin, a pointed nose, a big mouth, big blue eyes, and brown hair. He smiled so that a straightforward child like me would be delighted to see it. I stood up slowly and then walked towards him as I was near the man. I was happy and skeptical at the same time because I did not know the older man, but his face was familiar. Maybe I have seen him somewhere, but I could not recall when, where, or what situation.
Despite having all my doubts, the older man became my only shed of hope. He invited me inside the house, and I was happy to join him. The man prepared a cup of hot chocolate for me and cooked a soup for dinner. Despite doing all of these, the older man lacked words and had a plain expression. Nevertheless, he was the only person I could trust at that time. The older man served me the food, and as I ate, I discovered that the soup was made from human flesh. I saw an eye and a finger. I vomited and attempted to go away. However, as I ran towards the front door, it immediately closed and locked even without human force. I tried to open the door, but it was of no use. Soon, I saw the older man strolling toward me with a grinning face. His eyes were blood red, and he tried to kill me by suffocating. I tried to fight back, but it was of no use.
At that time, I knew I was inside of a dream, an...
