Part 1: Cave of Forgotten Dreams Questions
Question 1
The Chauvet Cave is located in the Ardèche valley, which is in the southern region of France. It is thirty-two thousand years old.
Question 2
Three cave explorers removed a rumble of stones that had blocked a passage in Ardèche valley when they discovered the Chauvet Cave. They made the discovery in December 1994.
Question 3
The first large chamber of the Chauvet Cave is the Chamber of the Bear Hollows. It serves as the entrance to the interior of the cave.
Question 4

Question 5
The first archeological features found in the Chauvet Cave are the paintings. There are more than 420 paintings documented in the cave. The paintings depict many realistic animals, abstract dot paints alongside the human handprints. The paintings at the front and back hall are different in that the former depicts the use of red ochre applications while the former depicts the use of black designs using charcoal. One other feature is the pride of lions which creates a feeling of the animals moving despite the photograph having been taken in poor lighting and with relatively low resolution. Additionally, some of the paleontological skeletal features found include thousands of animal bones, mainly cave bears, remains of hearths, and ivory spearheads.
Question 6
The calcite and concretion layers helped archeologists discern that the Chauvet Cave paintings were old and authentic. The archeologists observed the deposited calcite and concretion layers on the walls. The layers proved that the paintings were authentic because they were deposited on the painted walls. Considering that the layers were relatively large, it means that they had formed gradually for thousands of years. Therefore the paintings remained underneath the layers means that they were as old as the calcite and concretion layers confirming their authenticity.
Question 7
Firstly, a photograph of the pride of lions depicts movement because the photographer took it when the lions were in motion. The human footprints deposited at different cave points show a form of movement confirming that the humans who accessed the cave moved round paintings the noticeable artworks.
Question 8
Low temperatures marked by the high levels of dampness on the walls of Chauvet Cave characterize the environmental conditions prevailing during the artwork painting.
Question 9
The Chauvet cave served a human tribe that visited the cave for cultural rituals. Therefore, they drew black drawings of huge mammals during the cultural practices. The same cave served another group who painted the front hall with red ochre and pinned photographs as part of their cultural practices....
