Discussion: Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
As your EBP skills grow, you may be called upon to share your expertise with others. While EBP practice is often conducted with unique outcomes in mind, EBP practitioners who share their results can both add to the general body of knowledge and serve as an advocate for the application of EBP.
In this Discussion, you will explore strategies for disseminating EBP within your organization, community, or industry.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on the various strategies presented throughout the course that may be helpful in disseminating effective and widely cited EBP.
This may include: unit-level or organizational-level presentations, poster presentations, and podium presentations at organizational, local, regional, state, and national levels, as well as publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Reflect on which type of dissemination strategy you might use to communicate EBP.
Post at least two dissemination strategies you would be most inclined to use and explain why. Explain which dissemination strategies you would be least inclined to use and explain why. Identify at least two barriers you might encounter when using the dissemination strategies you are most inclined to use. Be specific and provide examples. Explain how you might overcome the barriers you identified.

Nursing: Dissemination Strategies
Two Dissemination strategies I would be most inclined to use
Dissemination involves the distribution of directed intervention information and materials to particular clinical practice or public health audience. The aim is to spread information, knowledge and intervention measures associated with evidence-based practice (EBP). Active dissemination is concerned with the spread of EB information using certain channels and strategies (Williamson, 2009). The first dissemination strategy I would be most inclined to use is improving the reach of evidence. This is because when evidence is broadly distributed to numerous audiences as well as across several settings, it tends to increase the distance in which information can reach. Furthermore, expanding the reach of evidence is essential in the communication of EBP since there are numerous mechanisms that can be used to send information. The second dissemination strategy is enhancing the capacity to apply and utilize evidence, irrespective of the mode that has been used to deliver it (Williamson, 2009). When additional resources concerning the evidence are provided, like ways of incorporating it into practice, it tends to improve conventional dissemination strategy.
Two Dissemination strategies I would be least inclined to use
The first dissemination strategy that I would be least inclined to use is influencing recipients to apply and utilize evidence. This is because when the recipients do not have the motivation to examine and apply the available evidence, it would be very challenging to enable the evidence to be beneficial to them. The second dissemination strategy that I would be least inclined to use is a combination of several approaches that would reduce the effectiveness of the evidence (Fineout-Overholt et al. 2010a). For instance, increasing motivation, reach, and ability may prove to be either effective or ineffective. This implies that a blend of dissemination strategies may reduce the motivation of end-users when it comes t...
