Nursing Staff Challenges
Nurses are bestowed to provide culturally competent care services in the daily encounters with patient populations from diverse backgrounds. However, this is always a daunting task for nurses considering that the patients embody unique cultural norms, beliefs, and practices (Hart & Mareno, 2015). At present, the responsibility is already challenging. The situation creates the possibility to project the problem being even worse in the future. As a nursing leader, I have the utmost conviction that the main cultural challenge facing my nursing staff in the next five years is the inability to provide effective patient-and-family centered care due to a lack of cultural awareness of the patients’ cultures.
As posited by Hart and Mareno (2015), the challenge of lack of cultural awareness arises due to nurses' inability to acknowledge and understand all the diverse cultural differences about the entire population. Every segment of the population observes and adheres to different cultural expectations.
