A nurse plays a vital role as a health educator. Nurses educate family and friends about the health status of a patient when it is within their rights to do so. Nurses also help patients themselves get a better understanding of how their condition is progressing and steps the doctor is taking to ensure their safety (Booth et al., 2016). Nurses are responsible for giving immediate and basic information on the health status of a patient to the family when the patient arrives at an emergency room or needs urgent attention. It is also the responsibility of the nurse at this point to communicate the need for the family to be calm.
When developing individual care plans, a nurse educator should also consider evidence-based care. Evidence-based care helps to inform nurses on the best nursing approaches. Also, evidence-based care is usually based on the most recent research (van Dongen et al., 2016).
