Today cancer is the second leading chronic disease in the world. Although there are various reasons why cancer diagnosis has increased in the United States, increased in the gang population, high obesity cases and decreased cancer awareness are the main contributors of cancer in the country. There are more than 45 million survivors in the United States. This is because there are improved health systems in the country. The nature of cancer treatment is very destructive such that it can result in a lot of complications in the long-run. Therefore there are certain treatment options that patients should always take to ensure there are no complications developed after the treatment. This proper will provide a comprehensive analysis of the nature of cancer diagnosis, the staging of cancer, complications and the methods that can be used to reduce the psychological and physical impacts of the treatment.
Diagnosis and Staging of cancer
Staging of cancer refers to the extent to which cancer has developed. For example how large a tumor is and the areas it has spread and can spread. Patients need to understand the stages of their cancer. This is because it assists the doctor to determine the seriousness of the disease and if there are chances of survival. Additionally staging also assist the doctors to ascertain the best treatment options for the patients (Teoh & Yiu, 2016). Cancer can be denoted by the stage at which it was diagnosed although it might get worse or even spread. Staging of cancer examines if the disease has spread to the neighboring cells, organs or the lymph nodes. When it comes to cancer treatment, staging is very important because a doctor can determine the type of cancer after conducting some diagnosis. However, if cancer has gotten worse, it is very hard for doctors to determine the stage
Cancer can be detected through physical examination of an individual. Screening tests can be conducted and sometimes doctors will examine the symptoms displayed by the patients. Sometimes doctors can choose to use an x-ray to examine an individual. There are times when symptoms like injuries can indicate some abnormalities. Diagnostic tests are very important because they assist doctors to confirm cancer cases. Additionally, doctors will also perform a biopsy to create a diagnosis of cancer. In this test, tissues are extracted from the body for examination. A biopsy is always the first test that is recommended by the doctors. Cancer can only be diagnosed if its stage has been detected by the doctors.
Staging of cancer enables doctors to determine the right stage of cancer. Staging assist doctors to determine the best treatment depending on the stage of the disease. There are five stages of cancer. These stages include Stage 0, stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, stage 4 and stage 5 (Roth, 2015). This means that if there is a high number of cancer cells, it means that the tumor is very large and cancer can spread to other parts of the body. For example, Stage 0 can indicate there are abnormal cells and the disease has not spread to other parts of the body. On the other hand, Stage 5 indicates that the tumor is very big and cancer has spread to other tissues in the body.
