To deliver comprehensive and effective healthcare, it is necessary to reduce health inequalities and provide patient-centered care in a supportive environment. Quality and safe care ought to reduce the health care costs to be more efficient (Haywood et al., 2015). Health depends on biological or genetic, factors related to the environment, lifestyle and the health systems. Health beliefs and values influence support for certain health policy initiatives as nurses seek to provide the best care improves patient safety, satisfaction, and outcomes. The paper will focus on the elements cost, quality, and social issues to frame a description of beliefs and opinions about health care policy.
Personal values and spiritual beliefs
The nursing values that influence nursing practice and clinical decisions are autonomy, human dignity, truthfulness, honesty, quality, generosity, compassion, altruism equality, ethical practice, competence, and social justice. Caring and the five core and professional values in nursing; human dignity, integrity, autonomy, altruism are integrated into nursing practice. As a nurse, I seek to provide high quality culturally relevant and safe care while addressing the patient health needs without the legal and ethical aspects of decision making. I am Catholic and liberal, and religious beliefs play an important role in influencing decisions, but I am also open-minded as I look at the intention and outcomes of different actions. While I was younger, I attended mass regularly compared to now, but I am still a spiritual person and have met more people who are not Catholic the more I matured and to school.
Beliefs and opinions about health care policy using-cost, quality, and social issues
Principles like autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, justice and fidelity influence medical and clinical practice and decisions. Respecting autonomy is reflected in the right to self-determination or freedom of choice, which is respected as long as they do not affect others and especially when the patient is informed (Doody & Noonan, 2016). Not harm (nonmaleficence) is a principle where being the patient should not be directly harmed or receives treatment that leaves them worse off. Relying on the principle of beneficence indicates that the benefits of actions and decisions are considered in health care. Being just (justice) indicates that people should be treated equally without being discriminated against and violates their dignity (Doody & Noonan, 2016). This extends to how scarce resources are distributed, fairness and reducing health disparities, while the principle of fidelity is faithful, loyal and trustworthy.
Providing quality and low-cost health care benefits patients who pay less and there is a focus on integrating practices that promote the patient well-being. This benefits the patients, and there is less strain when using healthcare resources as health institutions are more efficient. I believe that stakeholders should work more closely together to lower costs and this will make it easier to share resources.
