Identification of Focus for Community Teaching
The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic shed light on the importance of personal hygiene, with handwashing being one of the proposed ways of managing the spread of the deadly virus. The focus of handwashing is to teach preschoolers, 1st graders, 2nd graders, and 3rd graders how to wash and clean their hands towards preventing and reducing the spread of germs and other infectious diseases—normalizing proper handwashing at an early age among children’s functions to offset the spread of communicable diseases with the magnitude witnessed in the emergence of COVID-19.
Epidemiological Rationale for Topic
Normalizing the act of washing hands among young children from the ages of 3 to 9 is essential for promoting the health and wellbeing of the community as a whole. It is, therefore, important to teach the young children in communities how to wash and clean their hands properly to reduce the contamination of germs while equally preventing the spread of contagious infections and communicable diseases.
