Background
As health workers get in contact with patients with patients from diverse backgrounds, it is important for them to be familiar with diverse cultures. Religion is a dynamic that affects health decisions for both patients and health practitioners. To understand the place of spirituality in a patient’s life, nurses need to conduct a spiritual assessment while talking to both the patient and family members. Religion and spirituality not only influence decision-making, but also coping strategies and deeply spiritual individuals are more likely to have positive coping strategies (Krägeloh, et al., 2012). This is a comparative analysis of Christianity and Baha’i perspectives on providing health care.
Comparative analysis of the different belief systems
The Baha’i faith emerged during the 19th century in the Middle East following the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh and to a lesser extent Bab, and Bahá’u’lláh was considered a messenger of God, destined to draw people close to God through a spiritual life. The minority religion in all regions of the world, and adherents subscribe to the notion that human beings seek meaning in life and have a free choice to seek God’s presence. In other words, people have a rational soul that draws people closer to God, who has to progress spiritually. To improve and enforce the relation that people have with God, then devotion is critical. Devotional acts include fasting, pilgrimage, prayer and serving others.
What is prime reality?
The question of prime reality supports the other six questions of the world-view. The prime reality is associated with what is real including the Cosmos God, or god. Christians believe that God is all knowing and his persona is revealed in the Holy Bible, God is transcendent triune, good, sovereign and omniscient. The Baha’i faith emphasizes that it is possible to know God’s attributes and follow them and this includes love, justice as well as mercy, but human beings do not know the essence of God. Baha’u’llah articulated the case for changing the society where the Creator has provided essence to all human beings who are then to seek Divine light (Religioustolerance.org, 2009). What is the nature of the world around us?
God created the earth and all the creatures in it, and this is captured in the Genesis chapter 1. God works miraculously and supernaturally, and his creations represent the gift to mankind. Similarly among the Baha’i the Cosmos God represents the external reality, and God’s reveals his will to transform mankind outwardly and inwardly. Both religions highlight the creation of the world, and now this is linked with personal relationship that people have with the world and God.
What is a human being?
The book of Genesis states that human beings were created in the image of God, and man is also fearfully and wonderfully made. Additionally, a human being is highly complex and his physical form withers upon death. Equally, the Baha’i believe that a human being has a physical aspect that comes to an end to the death, while the...
