Once in a while there will be a health condition that simply beats the norm and the health care community is baffled. One such situation is when a healthy looking young athlete collapses and dies on the pitch (Maron, Roberts, McAllister, Rosing& Epstein, 1980). It is now becoming a common phenomenon and it beats the assumption that young and energetic athletes are the healthiest bunch. The cause for this shift is associated with heart alterations that in some of the cases will be missed during a general physical exam. As Maron, Roberts, McAllister, Rosing and Epstein, mention in their research, structural cardiovascular abnormalities are the highest risk factor associated with the deaths (Maron, Roberts, McAllister, Rosing& Epstein, 1980). This they ascertained from a research involving 29 young athletes that collapsed and died.
To diagnose the condition I would look into the close family and have them take a physical examination, including the measurement of the brachial artery blood pressure (Santos & Shah, 2014).
