Brain Structure and Imaging
The brain is categorized mainly into the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. Each of these categorizations plays a unique role. The forebrain is primarily concerned with the processing of sensory information. It also contains the endocrine structures. In addition, the forebrain is responsible for processing what is referred to as higher reasoning. The mid-brain is mainly responsible for controlling the motor movements of a person. The coordination of motor movements is essential for ensuring that life goes on unperturbed. The midbrain also plays a significant role in processing both audio and visual information. The hindbrain has been shown to deal with autonomic functions (Khan, 2018) majorly. Therefore, this part of the brain controls such things as the rhythm of breathing and sleep. The coordination of the three parts of the brain is essential for normal life processes. The brain can be compared to the central processing unit of a computer since almost every piece of information in the human body must be processed by the brain. The three parts of the brain work harmoniously to produce perfect harmony between all the processes going on in the body. When the ideal harmony is disturbed, undesirable conditions occur. These conditions are mostly described as mental illnesses.
There are two main types of scans used to study and observe the brain. These are structural and functional scans. One example of structural scans is computerized tomography. Another example is magnetic resonance imaging, which uses magnetic fields to produce detailed images. On the other hand, functional scans include the relatively modern electroencephalography technology. Another example of functional scan...
