Introduction
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are different infections individuals get while getting treatment for other conditions (Al-Tawfiq, & Tambyah, 2014). According to Al-Tawfiq, & Tambyah (2014), HAIs happen in any health care facility, including hospitals, ambulatory centers, long-term care facilities, and end-stage renal disease facilities. The infections can be contaminated by both patients and health care professionals in the facilities (Alp & Damani, 2015). It is essential to control healthcare-associated infection to do away with cases of double treatment to patients and hospitalizing staff. It will help a healthcare facility run its operations efficiently without dealing with upcoming infections that were not previously involved with the patient or staff. The data review in this report will look at measures to prevent healthcare-associated infections and different methods that can be used to gather information on the same. Therefore, this report is essential for healthcare facilities to understand the importance of doing away with healthcare-associated infections.
Report Overview
The report seeks to prove that healthcare infections exist within healthcare facilities and provides different measures that can be used to do away with the condition. The report also aims to create awareness on the issue of healthcare-associated infections as most people and healthcare facilities do not take the issue into account. After surveying 183 hospitals, it was found that 452 patients had one or more healthcare-associated infections. The most common healthcare infections found were pneumonia, surgical-site infections, and gastrointestinal infections, while Clostridium difficile was the most reported pathogen. Hence, the report proves that healthcare infections exist and precautions need to avoid such cases in healthcare facilities.
