Introduction
This paper is a reflection about of my present leadership position as a nurse. In the paper, I have discussed my vision in the next 3-5 years as I practice nursing. I have discussed the goals and the objectives that I would like to achieve as a nurse leader. In order to achieve my objectives and goals, I have come up with various plans that will help me in assessing the goals that I have so that I may fulfil them. The plans are detailed and each of the plans is well explained and how they can be applied in my life.
Reflection
I have been serving as a nurse practitioner at the local hospital for the past five years. It is during this period that I have learned from my service at the hospital. I was promoted to become a nurse leader at the hospital just two years after working at the health facility. I learned that as nurse leader, I have to serve as an example to the rest of my staff members by acting with integrity and communicating at all times to them. My actions will always be reflected in my staff members. I also learnt to develop and adopt characteristics that apply to the various situations that were at hand. One of the cases that I dealt with was that involving one of the staff nurses and the patient. The nurse had given a wrong prescription to one of our patients and as a result, the patient developed complications. As the nurse leader at the health facility, I was given the responsibility of explaining what had happened. Through this case, I learned that, as a leader I should be brave and be ready to meet any criticism from people. With the experience that I have gained working as a nurse leader, I hope to move my leadership to another level and help in bettering the lives of people through my nursing services.
I have also come to the realization that serving as a leader in any field can be very easy and challenging depending on how you set your mind. If you see a situation to be complicated, solving it certainly becomes difficult. But if you change your mind and see it as easier and view the opportunities of handling the issue, then you can solve it quickly.
Vision
In the next 3- 5 years, I have a leadership vision of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).While at this position, I will ensure that I transform the field of nursing and create an environment that builds and strengthens professional practice for the clinical staff. The vision will contribute to the positioning of the nurse leaders to be workers who will influence the future position of the healthcare system. I will be a leader who will ensure that services offered by the nurses are centered on the ultimate good of the patient.
I will make sure that the nurses get excellent training that will help them understand how they are supposed to relate well with the patients. Once in a while, I will get some mentors to assist in training the nurses on the ways that they can handle the difficult situations that they encounter. For me to achieve the vision, I have to get a good support of the nurses. They should reflect on the core values outlined in the circle of values of the nurses that is respect, loyalty, commitment excel...
