Dealing with Heart Diseases
Cardiomyopathy is a condition where the heart muscles weaken and as result it leads to deterioration of these muscles (Stettinius, 2012). A patient like Mr. P who is suffering from this condition has difficulties in breathing and swelling of the legs as a result of accumulation of fluid. To care for this patient, you have to be keen in checking the breathing style of the patient. You should ensure the patient remains in a well ventilated room with free circulation of fresh air and in an upright posture (Stettinius, 2012). To reduce the edema, the patient should be taken to minor and less fatigues walking exercises to relax. Mr. P whose condition is deteriorating, poly pharmacy is inappropriate for him as it may worsen his condition due to adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions and the high cost involved (Lilly, 2011). If administered, poly pharmacy may worsen his condition by causing irritations and discomfort. The use of different drugs may also hinder his eating habit as a result of affecting his appetite.
Treatment plan
The treatment plan of this condition involves a lifestyle change, medicines, surgery, implanted devices to correct arrhythmias and any nonsurgical procedure (Holmes, 2012). These treatments are meant to reduce complications, control symptoms and stop the disease from getting worse. Since the family is not in a stable financial position and Mr. P is of age, I would recommend that he be put under medication rather than undergo surgery procedures. For the treatment Mr. P can use the implanted pacemakers for slow heart rates, defibrillators prevent chances of fatal heart rhythms and also take antibiotics to reduce frequent pains that he may experience (Lilly, 2011).
