This is someone wrote:“I truly loved the "food rules" stated by Michael Pollan. They really make you think about the food that you are putting into your body but also focus on the mindset towards eating. My favorite rule was "Don't buy food where you buy your gasoline." I found this extremely impactful because so many people these days view consuming packed and processed foods as "the norm". If someone is hungry on a road trip, they usually stop at a gas station and buy some chips, pretzels, candy, etc.. If the establishment is focused on gasoline, that is not a place where we should be eating. Also, when driving, there is little to no conscious thought going into the act of eating. It is more like just shoveling food into your mouth. Mindless eating is a big contributor to weight gain and eating discomfort. Another rule that I liked was "Don't eat anything that your great-grandmother would not recognize as food". This one is cool because it highlights the fact that these processed foods are pretty new to the market, and typically are so processed and refined that they no longer resemble food. My great-grandmother was from Germany and she only consumed veggies and fruits grown in her garden and meat and eggs coming from healthy animals which she raised. If she could see the food we are eating these days, she would be mind blown. I can just hear her "Was ist das"?". The last rule that really stood out to me was the one about the ingredients list, "Don't eat anything with more than 5 ingredients, or ingredients you can't pronounce" I think that this rule applies to any products, not just food. There was one day a few months ago where I came home and started putting on lotion and decided to take a look at the ingredients and there was a HUGE list and I barely knew what any of the ingredients were, so I just threw it away. I then went through my entire apartment and threw away everything that I had that contained harsh, man-made chemicals. I threw out cleaners, lotions, shampoos, hair products, sauces, detergents, and decided I wanted to detoxify my life. Since then, I have been making many things homemade and have been trying to live a chemical free life and I truly feel amazing. It is also super satisfying to make your own products. Overall, I think that Pollan's food rules are great guidelines to follow when trying to live a healthier lifestyle."

One of the best alternative to meat is fish. Fish has a higher nutritional value than meat and a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acid. Swanson, Block, & Mousa (2012) observes that fish is among the foods high in omega 3 fatty acids ‘foods high in omega-3 fatty acids (salad dressing, nuts, fish, tomatoes, poultry, cruciferous vegetables, fruits, dark and green leafy vegetables), and a lower intake of foods low in omega-3 fatty acids (high-fat dairy products, red meat, organ meat, butter).’ Omega 3 fatty acids have among other benefits; better formation of cell membranes, they are anti-inflammatory, helps proper fetal development and healthy aging, helps brain development and retina.
