Banner Health Case Study
Banner Health was established in 1999 after two non-profit health organizations decided to merge, giving rise to a health organization that operates across seven states with over 28 hospitals and 39,000 employees (Banner Health, n.d.). Through their mission, “making health care easier, so life can be better,” the non-profit organization has become one of the largest healthcare organizations in the United States whose main focus is continuous improvement of patient outcome in the communities they serve.
The readiness of Banner Health in Addressing Citizen’s Needs
Banner Health has made considerable efforts in preparing for the next decade to ensure that they address the citizens’ health needs. One of the efforts is about transforming research into practice in the healthcare system. Generally, it takes years to turn research into practice in the healthcare industry, and Banter Health has made some progress in reducing the amount of time taken from years to months (Figueroa, 2014). This is through the use of the TRIaD model, which is a team of medical and nursing specialties who have focused their efforts to rapidly make use of innovative approaches in design and implementation of clinical care practices. By focusing on innovation and technological advancement to meet and effectively serve patients’ needs (Figueroa, 2014), the organization's readiness in serving the citizens is evident. This is especially important because lagging regarding technology and innovation affects a company’s practices and strategies.
Further, the technology has proven to be the only thing keeping most companies ahead of competitors, and as such, it is important to remain agile for operational effectiveness. In line with this, Banner Health has formed a strategic partnership with Cerner to ensure that they effectively incorporate innovation in healthcare delivery (Monegain, 2015). The partnership, which will be in place for several years, will enable the company to utilize innovative solutions, especially in electronics and information systems, for improved patient outcomes in the years to come. Cerner has been known to offer information technology solutions and services to companies in the healthcare industry, and such a partnership will take Banner Health to greater heights in the coming years regarding serving patients’ needs.
Strategic Plan Addressing Network Growth
Banner Health has used acquisitions and joint ventures as their main strategy for expansion and network growth in the recent past. For instance, their joint venture with Select Medical was implemented to facilitate the opening of three new hospitals for inpatient rehabilitation (Banner Health, 2018). This project is expected to be operational before the end of 2018. The same joint venture is also expected to facilitate the growth of Banner Health’s outpatient rehabilitation centers to expand Banner Health’s health network.
Further, the company has acquired other centers as part of their strategic plan for growth. Some of the acquisitions include centers under the Urgent Care Extra Umbrella where a total of 44 centers were acquired, Health Care Partn...
