Integrity and ethics are much-talk about virtues in any industry. More often, individuals are required to demonstrate principles of ethics and integrity in practice. Similarly, the process of acquiring education and training, for example, in nursing, demands honesty and integrity. The nurse scholars are expected to demonstrate academic and professional integrity. The principle of ethics and integrity ought to be integrated into academic, professional growth, and patient care. There is a rising concern on ethics and integrity in nursing. Park, Park & Jang (2013) observed that the level of cheating was alarming among South Korean nursing students. The authors noted that the nursing workforce market is becoming global and that cheating in nursing education can be controlled under the collaborative efforts of nursing faculties worldwide.  Academic integrity is of undisputed relevance in the educational environment, and honesty is regarded as a primary ethical value in all educational programs. Despite the importance of integrity and honesty, academic dishonesty is often practiced in the nursing education environment (Bultas et al., 2017).
Academic integrity is paramount in nursing. It is one of the significant determinants of career progression and competencies related to patient care. More often, learners are expected to demonstrate the mastery of content via different forms of evaluations, including written exams, reports, and assignments. Usually, students are expected to demonstrate honesty and integrity while undertaking written tests, projects, or essays. Academic writing presents a challenge because it directs learners to create work from other people’s content and develop something original. However, the borrowed content should be acknowledged in areas of work that have been used to build new original content. It entails providing credit to other people when using their ideas, theories, arguments, and concepts. Academic integrity demonstrates the commitment to honest and moral behavior in an academic setting.
Academic dishonesty occurs when learners fail to maintain academic integrity. Academic dishonesty is evidenced by unauthorized access to examination before the actual test time, aiding others to do an exam or test, doing academic work on behalf of other leaners, and evidence of plagiarism. Plagiarism is confirmatory evidence for academic dishonest, where the learners violate copyrights. In plagiarism, the author presents other people’s work without any acknowledgment and presents it as his or her work. However, paraphrasing can minimize plagiarism mistakes but paraphrased work must be acknowledged. Paraphrasing entails the rearrangement of ideas, concepts, or phrases, using own words.
