Mother speaks English as primary language; grandmother speaks Spanish as primary language. Last well visit was at 18 months of age and was speaking 20 words total, about 10 in English and 10 in Spanish. Now, mother states that child has about 50 words, with some in English and some in Spanish.

The exogenetic principle is the most likely one to be applied in this case. This is because, the principle addresses the progressive nature of growth and sophistication (Meyer & Kovary, 2019). The child has shown progressive maturity since he was 18 months, and has even learnt more words.

The Piaget Theory of Development is the most applicable for this stage. The sensorimotor stage of this theory is what covers this specific age group. The child is learning a lot from the environment as well as the people that he comes in contact with (Gans, 2019). During the late phases of this stage is when the infant starts learning some bits about language. This explains why he can pronounce some Spanish as well as English words.
