Essay Instructions:

In this assignment, you will draft a brief research paper on a scholarly topic of interest to you. The ultimate goal of this 2 or 3-page paper, to demonstrate your understanding of the parts of a research paper. You do not need to include an abstract.
Aside from the title page, abstract, references list, and appendices, a research paper simply includes a more refined version of the classic five-paragraph structure: an introduction, literature review, methodology, results and discussion, and a conclusion. The problem statement and purpose may be part of the introduction. However, at ACE, these two components are addressed in separate paragraphs as described below:
The introduction is a summary that explains the contribution and importance of the research questions with respect to literature, theory, policy, and/or practice.
The problem statement addresses a problem or issue in need of a solution and its background.
The purpose states the reason(s) the research is being conducted.
The literature review identifies research that others have completed and provides an analysis of all currently available information relevant to the topic. For the proposal, you may use the literature review (Module 3) or modify it for the proposal.
The methodology section explains to readers how the information will be gathered and presents a recipe for obtaining trustworthy evidence to address research questions. In this section, you also will describe the selection of participants in ways ethical and appropriate to the study.
The research results and discussions section consists of an analysis often illustrated by data in tables and figures. For this section in the proposal, you will describe a plan for analyzing and representing the data.
The conclusion informs the reader of how the results apply back to the research questions, reiterating the contribution and importance of the research questions with respect to literature, theory, policy, and/or practice (Parks, 2016).

The Benefits of Bilingual Education
Introduction
Modern-day classrooms are characterized by heterogeneity, yet students are expected to receive instructions homogenously. It is important to ensure that students from different ethnic backgrounds have equal access to education by eliminating language limitations. In the United States(US), the need for bilingual education was first addressed in 1968 through the Bilingual Education Act, which aimed at meeting the needs of students with limited English proficient (LEP) to promote equal educational opportunities for all language minorities(Gandara & Escamilla, 2016). This act, although controversial, cemented the importance of offering instructions in two languages in the classroom. How successful has bilingual education been?
Problem Statement
Academic achievement is affected by whether students understand what is being taught in the classroom. According to Agridag and Vanlaar (2016), there exists an academic achievement gap between native speakers and language minorities when instructions are given only in the native language. Therefore, ensuring that students have access to education in a language they understand is imperative. Bilingual education has been proposed to ensure that students achieve academic success by eliminating language limitations in the classroom.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this research paper is to establish the effectiveness of bilingual education in promoting equal access to education and overall academic achievement for students from minority communities. The paper will establish whether bilingual education creates a balance in the classroom.
Literature Review
Research on bilingual education focuses on a wide range of issues. Several research studies have focused on the effects of bilingual education on academic achievement and education accessibility. Bialystok (2018) found that the benefits of bilingual education include cognitive benefits, even for children with learning disabilities. In addition, bilingual education exposes students to a new language and generally enhances academic achievement. This study reported no adverse effects of bilingual education on students.
Similarly, Fox, Corretjer, and Webb (2019) found that bilingual education has cognitive benefits such as enhanced cognitive flexibility and higher cognitive reserve in old age, among others. Their study also established that bilingual education improves academic achievement and employability upon school completion. Watzinger-Tharp, Swenson, and Mayne (2016) examined the academic achievements of dual lan...
