The Salamanca Statement and Framework for Action on Special Needs Education specifically state to create welcoming and inclusive communities and achieve education for all. The Individuals with Disabilities and Education Act (IDEA) requires schools to provide students with disabilities a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) to the maximum extent appropriate. IDEA, however, does not define inclusion. How will you, as a leader, ensure students with disabilities are included to the maximum extent appropriate in the general education setting with their peers without disabilities? What type of support will be needed to ensure that all students are provided meaningful instruction that addresses their individualized needs and allows them to participate in the general education curriculum?
