Identify a text appropriate to use with the small group identified. You may use Appendix B of the Common Core English Language Arts Standards to help you determine an appropriate text for the lesson.
Draft a 250-500 word outline summarizing three activities to reinforce reading comprehension and summarizing skills, utilizing the identified text. Incorporate at least three of the strategies from Part 1 into your activities.

The first step of mastering any content is through reading. Reading comprehension is one of the methods that has been in existence for years. The objective of reading is to help learners capture the setting of the reading and main ideas in the context. Reading comprehension is divided into three parts; reader, activity, and text, which occur in the fourth component – the context (Malloy, Marinak, & Gambrell, 2010). However, it does not become easier for every adolescent. Therefore, some strategies can be initiated to help them improve their reading abilities.
* Strategy 1: Activating prior knowledge by summarizing (Malloy, Marinak, & Gambrell, 2010). It is essential to understand the need of students before introducing them to a reading. Therefore, tutors should activate the minds of students by summarizing the content. Summarizing entails reflecting on the reading to the students before they start the comprehension. The objective of this strategy is to prepare the students to engage in reading.
* Strategy 2: Involve students in word study. Phonics and comprehension are two main blocks that build up literacy. The two blocks are critical for students struggling to read. In this case, word study will provide students to understand varied phonics incomprehension. Word study helps students to decode complex words without struggle. Typically, word study is the primary foundation for learning reading mechanisms (Beck & McKeown, 2006). The word study strategy applies in the classroom setting and to students with disabilities.
* Strategy 3: Develop Questions. Keeping students engaged throughout the reading is vital if you need them to become successful readers (Malloy, Marinak, & Gambrell, 2010). In this scenario, it is recommendable to improvise questions attached to the reading to gauge their ability to grasp content. For example, what is the main idea in the paragraph? What do you think will happen next in the reading? These questions will help students stay connected. The strategy is applicable in the class setting and content area.
* Strategy 4: Visualization. Visualization in reading helps students to make photographic memories of that particular reading.
