Numerous studies have confirmed the effectiveness of bilingual education in increasing academic achievement for English language learners. In their book, Freeman and Freeman (2006) note that “reviews in of the research on bilingual education consistently show that bilingual education is the best model for educating English language learners” (p.8). Given that the model is backed up by research studies, it is deducible that its implementation should be backed up by educators and policymakers. While bilingual education is present at my school, I believe there is still more that can be done to improve its state and enhance the experience for English language learners. Bilingual education is embraced at the school as students have the opportunity to read and write every day in English and Spanish.
