Socialization agents are a combination of social institutions and groups that facilitate the first experience of socialization by communicating expectations and reinforcing norms. Socialization is the process by which a child develops a sense of self and learns how to interact with others in a socially acceptable way. Examples of socialization agents include families, peer groups, media, the workplace, early education, media, and religion. In this regard, the first socialization agent is the family, followed by the first school experience or early childhood education. For early childhood education, socializing agents provide the foundation for children to learn and grow in a secure, supportive and stimulating setting. Socializing agents include parents, teachers, peers, extended family, community members and caregivers.
Parents are the primary socializing agent for early childhood education. Parents can help their children develop social skills, emotional intelligence, problem-solving skills, language and communication skills and self-esteem. Parents can also provide opportunities for their children to interact with other children and adults. They provide children with opportunities for learning through social interaction, making it easier for them to develop social and emotional skills. Parents give children a chance to explore their identities and develop their sense of self-esteem. They also provide a secure and supportive setting for children to practice and learn new skills, providing an essential source of guidance and support.
