In Arizona, an English learner (EL) is a student who speaks little or no English and has trouble participating fully and doing well in an English-language school. Most of the time, these students do not speak English at home, so they need extra help in class to learn it well. To help EL kids learn English, there are different ways to teach them (Cheng et al., 2022). Four popular English learning model principles are used in Arizona. English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are usually taken by people who do not know much English and who do not speak it as their first language outside of the school day (Dawson et al., 2019). The plan is to ease the students into regular English classes while helping them learn the language.
