Applying Writing Strategies

Essay Instructions:

There are several research-based strategies that can be used to teach students how to integrate the elements of the writing process (planning, organizing, writing and revising). Some of these strategies, such as, “POW + TREE” and “STOP and DARE,” incorporate mnemonic devices to help students remember the elements.
Review “Case Study: Kaynia” to inform this assignment. This is below.
Write a 500-750 word essay on writing strategies that can be taught to students to develop their skills in applying the elements of the writing process.
Discuss the following in your essay:
Describe the “POW + TREE” and the “STOP and DARE” writing strategies, along with a third research-based strategy of your choice that is appropriate for Kaynia’s grade.
Out of the three writing strategies you described, select one to use with Kaynia, rationalizing your choice and explaining how that strategy would allow her to meet her writing goal, as well as engage in personal reflection and apply standards to evaluate her own writing.
Support your findings with a minimum of three scholarly sources.

Applying Writing Strategies
Introduction
Writing is an important skill required for an individual to succeed in class, the workplace, and society. It is through writing that people share information without meeting their audiences. Without appropriate research-based strategies, students face challenges integrating different elements into the writing process, including planning, organization, writing, and revising. This paper evaluates “POW + TREE,” “STOP and DARE,” and the “Ask, Reflect, Text” writing strategies to determine their appropriateness to Kaynia’s case scenario, including choice rationale and how the strategies will help her complete the persuasive essay and engage in personal reflection to evaluate her writing.
Description of Writing Strategies Appropriate for Sixth Grade Essay Writing Competencies
A critical look at Kaynia’s case reveals that she has strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates outstanding physical vigor. Her performance is satisfactory within many content areas. She is a sixth grade focusing on learning persuasive essay writing skills anchored on developing the capacity to put down her views and offer supporting arguments. However, Kaynia has challenges understanding concepts during the writing class. Despite having good ideas to complete her essay, she can not articulate her viewpoints explicitly. In that vein, Kaynia can apply the “POW + TREE,” “STOP and DARE,” and “Ask, Reflect, Text” writing strategies to complete her persuasive essay effectively.
The POW + Tree is one of the writing approaches appropriate for Kaynia’s grade. Since Kaynia has a problem writing and developing her idea, the teacher can use the POW + Tree strategy to facilitate the essay-writing skills learning process. In addition, the POW + Tree technique helps learners express their viewpoints in the writing process easily. POW is an abbreviation of Pick an idea, Organize my note, Write, and say more. In addition, TREE is an acronym for Topic sentence, Reasons, Examples, and Ending. In this vein, the POW + Tree strategy can increase a sixth grader’s ability to make critical and thoughtful arguments in writing and expressing their ideas (Marhamah et al., 2019).
Kaynia can also use the STOP and DARE writing strategies to master persuasive essay writing. It is an acronym for “Suspend judgment, Take a side, Organize ideas, Plan more as you write, Develop the topic sentence, Add supporting details, Reject at least one argument for the other side, End with a conclusion” (Lawrence & Harrison, 2020).
