Rape among Black Women
The history of Black women has often touched on a sensitive subject regarding their sexual vulnerability and powerlessness that exposed them to the risk of domestic violence and rape. The article on rape of Black women by Hine (1989) raises multiple issues, especially with the claim that Black women have been represented in literature as inherently vulnerable. Without refuting these claims, a critique could easily observe that the antebellum era involving slavery was the main environmental risk factor to Black women's sexual vulnerability. In the contemporary world where slavery has been abolished, the sexual exploitation of Black women is no longer institutionalized.
