Part 1
When I was young, I did childish things and it was okay for me to be and act that way. I was given all the attention I ever craved and whoever was around me knew when to pick me up so that I could stop crying. Everything was decided for me and I can say that these were simpler times. Life was simple. No one expected much from me and it was okay that I gave very little. However, as I grew up, I discovered that crying would not get me the things I wanted. I realized that my grace period had expired and that I had to work for what I wanted. To get good grades, I had to study and spend hours with my books. To have a simpler social life, I had to learn to talk to people and make friends. Initially, everyone wanted to talk and carry me. Life revolved around me and my childish needs. However, when I grew up, I realized that this changes and people start raising their expectations on me. My teachers expected me to perform better, my parents expected me to be a disciplined child, and my friends expected me to be there for them.
Every stage of my life came with some lessons. The older I got, the further I got to some things that were seemingly life to me, and the closer I got to new aspirations, dreams, and life. My parents, my first boyfriend, and my grandmother were the people who were closest to me while I was growing up. However, as I grew older, the distance between me and them widened. We got further and further away from each other and even though I noticed the gap at times, there was little I could do to help the situation. Currently, I am closest to my career, law school, and SHU School. These have become part of my life because every day, I get to interact with each as the others continue to fade away. It is easy to look at the things fading away and think that it is a bad thing and that we should strive to make sure our lives remain intact. However, what I have come to learn is that life is not linear. Like takes turns and fate has a way of leading us to surprises. At some point in my life, everything revolved around my parents. I needed them for everything and they were there for me every step of the way. Right now, however, my life has changed so much and I do not need them the same way I did back then.
As my career and law school have become closest to me, the influence of my parents has greatly reduced. My grandmother who helped grow my language interest also took a reduced role in my life as I grew older. She did pass on but I remember we had grown distant, and I could not talk to her anymore. Initially, I saw the world through the eyes of my parents and my grandmother. Life was easier because everything I did came from them. They directed my path and made sure that every step I took was danger-proof. I could not do go wrong with them on my side. While living under their roof, my parents made sure I never lacked and this meant that they had the right to dictate how I lived my life. Even though this life had a lot of restrictions, I had to oblige and compared to now, I will say that I enjoyed it more. As I have come to understand, see, and interpret the world on my own, my parents have faded away. Their view of the world differs from mine and thi...
